Special Report of the Protector of Citizens on the Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma with Recommendations

On Wednesday, 11th of December 2019, the Special Report of the Protector of Citizens on the Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma with Recommendations was presented. The report is based on research into the implementation of the Strategy, conducted between April and July 2019 by representatives of the Protector of Citizens and the A 11 – Initiative for Economic and Social Rights, with support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The research was conducted in 20 local self-government units in the fields of education, housing, employment, health and social protection. The aim of the research was to examine how the measures envisaged by the Strategy were implemented, to point out the shortcomings observed in their implementation, and to suggest how the implementation of the Strategy could be improved.

Although progress has been made in certain areas, the report indicates that the results in terms of combating Roma poverty and reducing socio-economic disparities are still very limited and that Roma IDPs are in particularly difficult situation.
