Applications for the New Generation of Students of the School of Economic and Social Rights Opened

The A 11 – Initiative for Economic and Social Rights invites you to apply and participate in the third School of Economic and Social Rights. If you are interested in issues of social justice, discrimination, economic and social rights and want to learn how to fight for the improvement of these rights in Serbia, apply to attend the School of Economic and Social Rights. The School of Economic and Social Rights is part of the regular program of education on economic and social rights, which has been implemented by Initiative A 11 since its foundation.

All interested participants can send applications by November the 10th, 2022 to: office@a11initiative.org, with the indication “Application for the School of Economic and Social Rights – 2022”. In order to apply, please submit your CV and a short letter explaining your interest in attending the School of Economic and Social Rights (no longer than 300 words).

Good command of the English language is desirable due to the fact that the workshop material will be in English, but it is not obligatory. Also, in addition to participants from Serbia, the School will gather people coming from the region. Lecturers will come from the academic community, from the A 11 Initiative, as well as partner organizations from Serbia and abroad.

The lectures will take place once a week, and the first and last modules will be held live, while the other lectures will be organized online, via Zoom platform, in order to facilitate the participation of participants who live outside of Belgrade. The first module will be held on November the 25th and 26th, 2022, and the costs of transportation and accommodation will be covered by the A 11 Initiative.

The school lasts until February 2023, and in agreement with the participants and depending on their interests, subsequent workshops, discussions and lectures will be organized.

The School’s program will provide participants with the opportunity to become more familiar with the basic principles on which economic and social rights are based, their place in the system of human rights protection at the universal and regional level, and different methods of fighting for their protection and improvement.

We will deal, inter alia, with the topics of growing social inequality, poverty, social exclusion, and discrimination of minority and marginalized communities, as well as the impact of new technologies and economic policy on the realization of economic and social rights. Moreover, specific issues concerning the right to social protection, housing, work and employment will also be discussed and we will deal with some of the systemic problems in the realization of these rights in Serbia and the region.

A detailed program and materials for the preparation of the School will be delivered to the students who will be accepted. Attendance at lectures is a condition for obtaining a certificate of completion from the School.
