Labour exploitation in Serbia from the perspective of economic and social rights

Donor: Olof Palmes Internationella Center

Project duration: May 2024 – April 2025

The main objective of this project is to improve the protection of the economic and social rights of the most vulnerable population in Serbia. The A 11 – Initiative for Economic and Social Rights aims to improve access to economic and social rights for Roma communities in Serbia, and/or other workers coming from particularly vulnerable communities at high risk of labour exploitation. The project will point out systemic challenges Serbia faces in realizing the economic and social rights of the vulnerable population regarding their position in the labour market and the overall position of workers in precarious jobs.

The project consists of four main activities:

  • School of Economic and Social Rights for activists, OCDs, trade unions, academia representatives
  • Focus groups with the most marginalized workers, meetings with different stakeholders, and field visits all in order to develop a publication on the issue of labour rights and the most vulnerable groups
  • Public awareness-raising campaign on improved access to labour rights for the marginalized citizens
  • Initiation of strategically important case before the national or international judicial or quasi-judicial protection mechanism
